It actually happened really fast. I will admit, it was hard to truly appreciate the sight set out before us. You see, years ago when I walked into the gallery of my inspiration, Peter Lik, I was mesmerized . It was the moment I knew I wanted to take up the art of photography. There are a few photos I remember seeing in his gallery. His iconic shots from Antelope Canyon stick out at the top of most memorable.
Fast forward 12 years. With about 48 hours of free time in hand, myself and a couple friends made the 12 hour round trip to Page, Arizona. A whirlwind trip, but the landscape that has haunted my dreams since that fateful day was close enough that the adventure would be worth the effort. The guided hike through the twisted slot canyon began, and ended in an instant. Lasting about an hour, there wasn't much time. Being swept through such a beautiful landscape isn't ideal, however I was beyond ecstatic for the opportunity. I spent the hour twisting, and contorting myself, and the tripod in every last way imaginable. Capturing as much of the canyon as possible.
Looking straight up in the canyon reveals layers of colour, and light that bewilder the imagination. Goal achieved. Just like I had seen it so many times in my dreams. One of Arizona's majestic slot canyons captured. A milestone for my photography career! Years of wind, and water erosion carving one of nature’s most iconic landscapes for my lens to finally capture! You can’t measure this level of excitement.
